Power Harvesting in Prosthetic

Power Harvesting

The relation between the load resistance,
power and the operating frequency. The
harvested power is calculated from the
measured voltage value by digital
oscilloscope and measured value of load
resistance directly.

Piezoelectric harvesting from the prosthetic knee action

Piezoelectric harvesting from theprosthetic knee action

The PZT piezoelectric energy harvesting
connect with cables to vibrate the
piezoelectric. The cable connect from
piezoelectric and attach to the knee
mechanism. The cable will activate the PZT
piezoelectric to start harvest energy.

How to put MFC piezoelectric on foot prosthesis

How to put MFC piezoelectric on foot prosthesis

The movement of the prosthetic legs and
the foot prosthesis would generate energy
directly from PZT and MFC piezoelectric.
The integrated low loss full wave bridge
rectifier with a high efficiency buck
converter was designed to connect directly
to PZT and MFC piezoelectric.

How to put piezoelectric and hitting device together

The major limitations of harvesting the
energy from piezoelectric devices are not
only providing low power, but also the
difficulty to investigate their behaviour
when applying to some applications such
as prosthetic legs. Thus, the investigating
of the output voltage waveforms when hitting
the upper arm of the piezoelectric
PZT was shown.

Piezoelectric in the Upper Prosthetic

The series of piezoelectric was used to embed inside the socket area
including the hitting harvesting kit. The
complete set would be moulded as part of
the material for the upper prosthetic leg.

PSCAD/PSPICE and Piezoelectric PZT

The investigation of the actual open-circuit
output voltage at no load operation
together with measuring the output
parameters (resistance and capacitance) of
the PZT by RLC meter were applied and
the data were used to complete the
modelling by PSCAD/PSPICE.

It would be useful not only for the energy management circuit
analysis but also in the design system.
The output voltage waveforms was used to
discussed with the general output
characteristic of the piezoelectric PZT from
the simplified mechanical model [23].

DC motor employed with Piezoelectric

DC motor employed with Piezoelectric

This chapter presents the electromechanical
technique for the
piezoelectric PZT (Lead Zirconate Titanate).
The electromechanical characteristic of the
studied PZT would be analyzed based on
experiments while the investigation of the
energy generation was shown in Figure 6.1
which used a DC motor which employed as
the mechanical force source. It used to
control the action which would make contacts to one of the piezoelectric PZT arm
at the frequency 1 Hz. The output voltage
waveform, VP, generated from the PZT is
observed, investigated and measured the
value at each touching step.

Damping Factors: Piezoelectric in Prosthetics

Damping Factors

The voltage source was used as the
proposed model. The main internal
parameters are as following:

- the output resistance RP
- the output capacitance CP

They are measured by a RCL meter (Fluke
PM6306).
The duration of the voltage response from
Figure 6.2 can be modelled as a secondorder
parallel RLC circuit. The resonance
equation can be express as a function of
complex frequency (S1 and S2), which was
used to determine the values of R, L and C.
